Anything edifying here? Not much! A fascinating insight into a palace coup 3,000 years ago. Adonijah, the natural successor, was preparing for when his father died, Solomon stole a march on him by getting crowned while his father was still alive. But at least it happened without bloodshed – that is, until chapter 2 when Solomon picked off all his rivals one by one. Solomon’s triumph was based on a lie. A replay of Jacob and Esau?
