Description

I dont read the Bible, because it is too long and too complicated.

That’s true.  It is very long and very complicated.  Not surprising since it was written over more than a thousand years by dozens of different writers.  And the contents are arranged by types of literature, not chronologically.

“The Bible in Brief” offers a way of getting a real understanding of the Bible in just six months of daily readings.  You do not have to do it all in one go.  Each month has a different topic and each week has a different topic.  For example, Month 2 goes through a thousand years of the history of Israel and Judah, of which Week 2 deals with the reigns of David and Solomon.  But you can start wherever you like.

How does it work?

Choose a week of readings you want to explore, and go through four stages:

  1. Read the chapter recommended once or twice.
  2. Reflect for a minute or so, finding a sentence or phrase that means something to you.
  3. Respond to the question – they’re not easy ones, they need some thought.
  4. Record your own thoughts about the question, either in writing in the book or in taking part in the discussion forum on line.

There are notes explaining various odd terms and words, e.g. where were Israel, Jacob and Ephraim, (all the same place!), and what the word “Christ” means, plus four maps and two dozen archaeological drawings.

The Other Side

A unique  twist is that after each month’s readings there is a section with writings from the surrounding cultures, e.g. the Babylonian creation myth and their story of the great flood, a prayer of the Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar or what the Romans really thought about this new religion of Christianity (not good).

Bonus Features

At the end is a variety of “Bonus Features”, such as the different meanings which people attach to the Bible, why it has chapters and verses, what scientists think about it and a critique of various mainstream Bible films, with direct links to some of them.

It’s for you!
